The continuing trend and alarming impact of global warming due to the excessive use of fossil fuel and other uncontrolled activities of human beings has now becoming the world’s concern since it may endanger our life on this planet earth. There is a continuing scientific evidence that eccessive drought in one part of the world region due to global warming may induce disasterous flood in other regions. In this regard, renewable energy sources, which is environmentally benign energy sources, can be utilized effectively as the potential alternative to substitute the rapidly depleting fossil fuel to support sustainable development in both countries. The world is also facing enegry crisis toward 2050, unless effective measures and mitigation can urgently applied such as making the best utilization of locally available renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency.
The sysmposium will discuss about the state of the art of renewable energy applications in Indonesia and Japan, lesson learnt from their successful applications under both countries socio-economical set-up. The symposium will used as an arena to encourge more younger generation engineers and scientists to actively participate in accelerating the achievement of MDG, particularly in Indonesia and other parts of the worlds which is still living in poverty and backwardness using renewable energy technologies.
Therefore, strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Japan could be nurtured to achieve the common aims. Japan can play leading roles in conducting basic and applied researches on renewable energy technology and together with their Indonesia counterpart can began to study the impact on the applied renewable energy technology, through pilot projects, for the benefit of both countries and the society at large.
